Kids go crazy over new fashion trends. Their fashion craze drives parents crazy. We simply can’t get them whatever is new in the market, right? Many a times we go tight on the pocket or else giving the kids all they want will spoil them. One of the best ways of customizing your style is by bleaching denim. This way you can get the latest of the fashion and could also end up saving some money. With just a few household materials, you can create an ombre, bleached or light denim look for your shorts or pants. Here is the trick to bleach shorts.
For starters get the denim shorts that you wish to bleach. Or else you could take some old denim jeans and cut them into shorts. The rule for bleach shorts is the darker the denim, the more dramatic your faded or ombre look can be. The ombre style is generally darker near the top and fading into a bleached white color at the bottom. Always try on your shorts before you dye them. If you want an ombre look, draw a line with washable marker at the point you would like to start and stop the fading.
To make the bleach and water solution take a not to big tub. Dying the shorts in the tub is way easier and convenient than doing it in the sink. It is safer, with more ventilation and less chance of accidental contact with the skin. Always wear rubber gloves while working with bleaches. Fill the tub half full with a 1 to 1 solution of water and bleach. Then add a few drops of laundry soap. This will stop the yellowing in the bleached areas. Now mix it all well. Once the mixture is all ready, clip the shorts onto a hanger. See to it that it doesn’t fall off. You do not need a hanger if you plan to dip the entire pair of shorts in the bleach. See to it that the shorts are submersed completely into the solution. If you are trying for an ombre dye pattern, submerge them 2/3 in the solution, then slowly pull them over the side of the tub over the course of your dying time.
Let the shorts stay in for about 2 to 12 hours. The length of time will depend upon how dark the denim was in the first place and how light you want them to be bleached. If you want to bleach your shorts bright, let it stay in the solution for about 8-12 hours. But keep on checking the shorts frequently. Ever time you check, the shorts will appear different. Keep on changing the position of the shorts in the solution. Once you get the desired color, take it out of the solution. Rinse them in a laundry sink. Put them in the washing machine on a normal cycle. Let it dry like regular clothes. Just in case if you wish to have a different color bleach to your denim shorts, buy some fabric dye from the craft store. Once you get the fabric dye, follow the instructions and do so. Then, use your cleaned plastic tub to submerge your bleached shorts in the new color. And lastly remove and risen.
