Skin pigmentation is a quite common problem of skin, concerning the masses, mostly women. It is characterised by light or dark patches on the skin. Various home remedies can be used to treat these disorders at home.

  • Potato: It is an easily available source of reducing the pigmentations on skin. Simply, take some slices of potato and keep it over the affected area for 15 minutes. Repeat it daily to visibly reduce pigmentations.
  • Lemon juice and cucumber juice: take few drops of lemon juice and add equal amount of cucumber juice to it. Apply this mixture on the affected area and let it stay for 15 minutes and wash off with cold water to lighten pigmentations.
  • Papaya mask: take a piece of papaya and mash it to form a semisolid paste. Apply this mask directly on the affected portion. Apply this mask for several weeks patiently to see the results. Papaya contains enzyme that accelerates skin exfoliation, which will help in the early exfoliation of the pigmented skin and subsequent replacement by new skin.
  • Almond and milk paste: soak almonds overnight and peel off its skin in the mornings. Make a paste of these almonds by crushing them, with milk as the medium. Apply this paste daily to reduce the pigmentation. Almonds have fatty acids and nutrients which nourish the skin and decreases pigmentation.
  • Vinegar: vinegar is a commonly used acid in cooking. It works wonders in reducing the pigmentation of skin. It has a very good astringent property and is a good exfoliator as well. However, it is acidic in nature, and can therefore, damage the skin. Use vinegar by diluting it using equal amounts of water. Apply over the affected area and leave on for 15 minutes. Wash with cold water and pat dry. This remedy can be used twice daily for several weeks.
  • Aloevera: take a leaf of aloevera, remove its outer layer, and apply the gel directly on the affected area. This remedy can be done twice or thrice daily till the reduction of pigmentation.
  • Water: keep water in a copper vessel overnight, and drink this water in the morning. This is proven to reduce vitiligo patches. Vitiligo patients should make it a daily habit.
  • Tomato, oatmeal and yoghurt: make a pack by mixing some amount of tomato juice which required amount of oatmeal and yoghurt. Apply this preparation to the affected area daily.
